What Roe Reversal Means for Abortion in Missouri

The Supreme Court has overturned Roe V. Wade, the decision that made abortion legal at the national level. This means that the legality of abortion moved back to the states and each state has its own laws about abortion pills and procedures.

No matter what changes in the months or years ahead, we’re committed to providing the best care and support we can to women and families facing pregnancy decisions in our community.

We are open and here for you.

Can I still get an abortion in Missouri?

It is now illegal to get an abortion in the Missouri unless it is considered medically necessary to save the life of the mother.

Note: Treatment for an ectopic pregnancy is not an abortion and is still legal.

Is this the same as the 6-week ban?

No. Many of you are familiar with Texas’ (and Oklahoma’s) ban on abortion after 6 weeks. While some states do have a limit on abortion, it is illegal to have an abortion procedure or order abortion pills in Missouri.

Here is the good news. While abortion clinics that solely perform abortion services are closed, we are not. Our doors are open and will remain open so we can provide cost-free and necessary services like ultrasounds, options and resources, and support for women facing unexpected pregnancies.

If I want an abortion, what are my options?

There is a lot of disinformation online about women being penalized for looking for abortion information. You cannot be charged for seeking information on abortion or your options. The laws here only penalize people who provide abortion services. If you are pregnant and considering abortion, we’re still your first step. Come see us to learn about all the options available to you.

Is ordering the abortion pill online a safe alternative?

No. It is also illegal to order abortions by mail in Missouri. While at-home abortions and abortion by mail have increased across state lines, there is a reason the FDA has issued warnings about ordering abortion pills online. There have been cases of pills being laced or altered and women have been hospitalized or died as a result. The official warning can be found here.

Do Not Buy Mifeprex or its Approved Generic Over the Internet

You should not buy Mifeprex or its approved generic over the Internet because you will bypass important safeguards designed to protect your health.

Mifeprex and its approved generic have special safety restrictions on how it is distributed to the public. Also, drugs purchased from foreign Internet sources are not the FDA-approved versions of the drugs, and they are not subject to FDA-regulated manufacturing controls or FDA inspection of manufacturing facilities.

What can I do?

Your Next Steps

Your first step is to confirm your pregnancy and how far along you are with an ultrasound. An ultrasound can also determine if the pregnancy is occurring inside your uterus.

An ultrasound is needed to confirm:

  • If the pregnancy is viable

  • How far along you are

  • The location and type of the pregnancy

  • If you are carrying single or multiples

If you do have an ectopic pregnancy, the surgery required is (and will always be) legal and can save your life.

Make an appointment today. All services are confidential and provided at no cost to you.
